Flurry of narcotic drug tests at National Forensic Laboratory in Kailali

Sudurpashim, July 28 : Most of the samples received by the Dhangadhi-based National Forensic Laboratory in Kailai are related to narcotic drugs. 

Out of total 1,079 samples tested by the lab last fiscal year 2082-83 BS, 1,033 or 95.7 percent were related to chemistry and narcotics (drugs). According to the available data, the Lab tested cases of disputed documents, some of DNA tests while some others related to biology-serology. 

In the twelfth and final month of the last fiscal year, Asar, the laboratory tested 109 samples. Of these, 104 samples from 89 cases are related to narcotic drugs, according to Office chief Birendra Chaudhary.  

The annual report of the Lab for the fiscal year 2081-82 BS also indicates that the lab has the pressure of testing of narcotic drugs. 

Last fiscal year, it had received 3,380 samples from 1,336 cases for the tests, and among them 1,269 cases were related to narcotic tests, 31 of biology and DNA and 36 of disputed documents. 

According to the report, the facility receives cases from not only Kailali, Kanchanpur, Dadeldhura, Baitadi, Darchula and other districts of the Sudurpashim Province but also from Karnali and Lumbini provinces for the sample tests. 

The laboratory was established at the end of the fiscal year 2076/77 BS as a branch office of central Khumaltar-based National Forensic Laboratory in Khumaltar of Kathmandu.
