TU, Nepal Police conduct separate investigations

By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, July 27: The university and the police have launched separate investigations into the Masters of Business Studies (MBS) exam under the Faculty of Management of Tribhuvan University.

The question paper of the first MBS session ‘MGT 515 Organizational Behaviour’ was leaked within five minutes of the beginning of the exam on Friday.

Tribhuvan University is being criticized all over, interpreting this as the question paper being leaked before the exam. However, Tribhuvan University and Nepal Police are conducting separate investigations on this issue.

Tribhuvan University on Sunday formed a three-member investigation committee under the coordination of Professor Achyut Gyawali of the Central Department of Management to study the question paper issue. The committee includes Associate Professor Pushkar Raikhala, Joint Director of the Tribhuvan University Monitoring Directorate, and Associate Professor Mahesh Raj Ojha, a member of the Central Examination Steering Committee.

The committee has been instructed to investigate the incident and submit a report within seven working days, informed Prof. Dr. Mahananda Chalise, Dean of the Faculty of Management, who is also the Registrar of TU. Stating that TU has taken the issues regarding the question paper leak seriously, Chalise said that strict action will be taken against the guilty.

The Ministry of Education and Sports had also requested the Nepal Police to investigate the question paper leak and take strict action.

In addition, the Office of the Dean of the Faculty of Management of the university had written to the Cyber ​​Bureau of the Nepal Police requesting for a warrant. Following the special instructions of the Minister of Education and Sports, Sasmit Pokharel, and the correspondence from the Dean's Office, the police questioned some people on Sunday.

Some were released after the interrogation and one person was taken into custody, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anupam Shamsher JB Rana, spokesperson of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police.

The MBS examination was conducted in 76 centres across the country. Since it was not clear which centre had caused the problem and there were no problems with the examination, the examination was conducted as scheduled that day.
