Mithila Sharma to honour mentors

By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, July 22: Popular actress and dancer Mithila Sharma will continue to provide awards she established in the memory of her mentors as a guru dakshina (tribute to teachers) for their contributions to her career in acting and dance.

Launched last year, the awards will once again be presented on the occasion of Guru Purnima on July 29.

The event, to be held at the Nepal Police Club, will honour acclaimed dancer Bimala Shrestha Kshetri with the Rajpal Thapa Dance Achievement Award 2083. Likewise, renowned singer and composer Dr. Kiran Pradhan will receive the Gopal Yonjan Music Achievement Award 2083.

The programme, which will feature a range of musical and dance performances, will also honour distinguished litterateur and lyricist Rajendra Thapa with the Chetan Karki Literary Lyrics Achievement Award 2083.

 Likewise, comedian and director Santosh Panta will be presented with the Hada and Pal Humour Literature Achievement Award. In addition, acclaimed actor and former Additional Inspector General of Police Arjun Jung Shahi will receive the Nepal Former Police Art Achievement Award 2083, Sharma said.

Sharma, who also serves as an adviser to the Nepal Former Police Artistes' Association, said she established the awards to keep the legacy of her mentors alive.

“I established these awards as a guru dakshina for my mentors in acting, singing and dance. The past asks for nothing in return, but by remembering our teachers on one special day each year, I believe the proud legacy of my mentors Chetan Karki, Gopal Yonjan, Rajpal Thapa and Dhruva Ratna Hada will continue to live on,” she said.
