Ten killed, 32 injured in disaster-related incidents in Taplejung

By Chandra Pandak, Taplejung, July 19: Ten people lost their lives in various disaster-related incidents in Taplejung during the fiscal year 2025/26.

According to data from the District Administration Office, the deceased included five women, four men and one child.

Among the disaster incidents, four people -- two women and two men -- died in fire incidents. Similarly, one woman and one man died in landslides, while one woman and one girl lost their lives in floods, said Yadav Bhattarai, Information Officer and Assistant Chief District Officer at the District Administration Office.

He added that one man died after being struck by lightning, while one woman died due to altitude sickness.

During the review period, five people, including four men and one girl, went missing in disaster-related incidents. A total of 32 people were also injured. The injured included 16 men, 10 women, five boys and one girl.

The District Administration Office said that disaster incidents damaged 26 houses, three industries and nine bridges and other structures during the fiscal year.

According to the office, fire incidents caused the highest damage, affecting 20 houses. Landslides and windstorms each damaged three houses.
